Kota Kinabalu: In an effort to create a cleaner and greener place to live in, City Hall is looking into the possibility of organising a car free day programme just like the one held by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said there are many quarters that encourage City Hall to organise such programme. "But at the moment, we are facing a little bit of traffic jam here, so we have to evaluate the situation. "I will speak to the Minister who is overseeing us (City Hall), Datuk Edward Yong (Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister), but we are also directly under the Chief Minister's Department. We need to prepare a proper paper before we could close the road on a specific day. I will submit the paper to the Chief Minister and let him look at the pros and cons before we close the road," Yeo said at the 2016 Unitar-Sidma Charity Run.
In the city, currently the left lane of the road leading to Anjung Selera from Sabah Trade Centre is closed to traffic every Sunday of a month for te Sunday Family Ride (SFR) programme. The SFR aims to promote interaction among families and communicaties and also to encourage the people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
"We have shifted the time to 5am-9am, so those who go to church at 9am or 10am could come around 5am or 6am".
